Community Champions
Our Year 2 and Year 5 children can apply to be 'Community Champions'. A community champion is someone who volunteers within their local community to help support other people and make a difference. We work closely with Bishopsteignton House Care Home, where our Community Champions spend time with the residents through activities such as craft, games, and shared conversations. These visits help build special intergenerational friendships, encouraging empathy, confidence, and a deeper sense of belonging within the community.
Playleaders
Our Playleaders are pupils from Years 5 and 6 who help make lunchtimes active and enjoyable for everyone. They lead a range of games and activities, encouraging all children to join in and try something new. Playleaders are easy to spot in their bright high-visibility jackets and play an important role in creating a fun, inclusive playground where everyone feels part of the team.
School Council
Our School Council includes representatives from every year group, giving all children a voice in how our school runs. Members are elected by their classmates through a democratic voting process and meet regularly to share ideas, discuss issues, and plan projects. The Council has helped raise money for a range of charities and initiatives, including providing wet playtime boxes for each class. They also contribute to shaping school policies, such as our behaviour policy, ensuring that pupils have a real influence on decisions that affect their everyday school life.
Buddies
At the end of Year 5 our children can apply to be Buddies for the new EYFS children coming into our school. This means that they support our youngest children during the early transition into school and throughout their first year. We see amazing relationships form and our oldest children relishing the responsibility they have in making school an even more enjoyable place to be. Buddies get time to play with each other at lunchtime, support them in assemblies and also have special reading activities together.
