Voyagers and Discoverers recently started an exciting Design and Technology project as part of our topic ‘Love where you live’, exploring playground equipment and discussing what makes a successful play area.
To begin their learning, the children looked at a variety of playground structures, carefully considering the positives and negatives. They discussed important factors such as safety, enjoyment, accessibility, and durability, thinking about what children of different ages might want from a playground. Also, as part of their research, pupils looked at a range of existing playground apparatus. They discussed different features and identified parts they thought would be effective in their own designs.
Working collaboratively in pairs and small groups, the children then began the exciting process of designing their own playgrounds. Using the knowledge gained through their research, they sketched initial ideas, discussed their plans, and worked together to create imaginative and practical designs.
We were incredibly impressed by the children's creativity, teamwork, and thoughtful decision-making throughout the project. We look forward to seeing how their playground ideas continue to develop over this term!
